Math Whizz 2017

Mathematics – The most beautiful and the most powerful creation of the Human Spirit

Does working with numbers amazes you? Do you think performing calculations is like a cake walk for you? Do you feel your brain always gets activated to solve arithmetic problems? Do you think you can challenge your knowledge of percentages, ratios, interests, graphs, charts and many more mathematical jargons? 

If your answer is YES!! Then you should be startled by “MATH WHIZZ” – an exciting initiative by the FIITJEE team for the Class 6, 7, 8 Math scholars. With a huge support from our existing students and parents “Math Whizz” was initiated in the year 2015 exclusively for FIITJEE Students with an intention to encourage the young minds to participate and complement their regular studies. 

Purpose:

The main purpose of Math Whizz is to spot the students with Mathematical talents among lower classes and give them a feel of Olympiad Camp. It is a great motivational factor for the students to aspire for real Olympiads conducted by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education.

Recognizing the importance of innovations, the Government of India has declared the decade 2010 -2020 as the ‘Decade of Innovations’ with a focus on inclusive growth. FIITJEE being the frontrunner in the field of nurturing students have come forward with this initiative.

Stages:

Math Whizz will be conducted in 3 Stages:

Stage 1 :  This will be a preliminary round of Objective Test covering the portions of Mathematics and Mental Ability of respective Class Level and will be opened to all students. The students will have to run this initial race in order to conquer. 

Stage 2: This stage will be limited only to selective students from Stage 1, who will be facing a more difficult level of test on General Mathematics. Questions in Stage 2 will be of Olympiad Level and will test the IQ & Comprehensive ability of the students.

Stage 3(Math Whizz Camp): Top 10 students of Stage 2 will be selected for Stage 3. Similar to the Model of Orientation cum Selection Camps (OCSC) of International Maths Olympiads, Stage 3 will happen as a camp. The best students of the entire Chennai Region (States of TamilNadu and Kerala) will be camping in Chennai.

Rank 1 - Gold Medal + Scholarship* worth Rs.1Lakh

Rank 2 - Silver Medal + Scholarship* worth Rs.75 Thousand

Rank 3- Bronze Medal + Scholarship* worth Rs.50 Thousand

The medals will be distributed in a glorious award ceremony.

Math Whizz 2017

Taking this initiative to a higher level and to make the legacy forward, Math Whizz 2017 was conducted on Sunday, 19^th November 2017. This year Math Whizz was opened not only for the FIITJEE students but also for the other students who are not a part of FIITJEE.

823 students from TamilNadu and Kerala registered for the first stage of process. We were extremely delighted to look at all the eager Mathletes performing in the test with at most interest and enthusiasm.  The students took objective test in different FIITJEE centre allotted to them.

The Stage 2 process took place on Sunday, 3^rd December 2017. A total of 59 students from class VI, 119 students from class VII and 192 students from class VIII were selected for the Stage 2 process. The selected students were seen highly motivated and they took part in this stage with real competitive spirit. 

The Math Whiz Camp 2017

Finally 20 students from each class were selected for the Stage 3 Math Whizz Camp. A total of 60 students attended the camp which took place at the FIITJEE Towers, KK Nagar from 27^th December 2017 to 30^th December 2017.  The students were taught Number Theory, Plane Geometry and Theory of Equations for the First three days of the camp. We were glad to see the high interest levels of the students and their thirst for knowledge that really motivated us to do our best to quench. On the fourth day, the students were allowed to revise on the topics taught and the final test was conducted. Based on their performance in the test, top three scorers from each class were selected and ranked.   

Congratulations to all the participants and the Prize winners.!! We are elated by the overwhelming response from students and parents. We also extend our gratitude for using this opportunity created by FIITJEE as the measurable way to achieve success in Math..!!

We in FIITJEE understand that every student yearns to experience what he/she has learnt and transform into the change that he/she wants to make.  Their Raising Achievement and Confidence in Math have always motivated us to take this extra step of creating the right platform to showcase their talents.  As a result we have planned to conduct Math Whizz every year for the students to exhibit their mathematical skills.
